4D creative at the MEN Business Award 2012

Last night we attended the MEN Business Awards where we were runners-up in the Young Business of the Year category.

The awards gala dinner, held at Manchester Town Hall and hosted by Nicky Campbell, celebrated a range of businesses across the region. New companies right up to those with £100m turnover were hoping to scoop one of the coveted awards.

4D were nominated in the Young Business of the Year awards for companies trading for less than three years. The eventual winners of this category were One Iota from Rossendale who work in the e-commerce sector – many congratulations to them.

Despite not leaving as winners, it’s been a worthwhile and enjoyable experience to be involved in this years awards. We’ve met fellow business people across the region and from the sponsors of the event, The Co-op, PwC and Pinsent Masons. It was also a very enjoyable evening in the fantastic setting of Manchester Town Hall.

Full details on the other winners and the event can be found at the MEN website.

4D Model Box

A 4D Immersive Space in a box! Last week, our design team set about making a model box so we can show what we do on a mini level.  All run by our own software, you can experience how the press of a touchscreen can transform a room (albeit a very mini room).

The box features all the technology we usually fit into a whole space including a fully functioning interactive floor!

We decided to build the model box so we can show in a very quick, playful way, exactly what we do to larger spaces and the impact this could have on teaching and learning. We will be taking our model box to schools, conferences and exhibitions in the coming weeks.

If you’d like for us to come and visit you with the model box and to look into what we could do at your school, then just get in touch. There’s no obligation or charge for this process, we will just need an hour of your time.

4D’s creative director wins business award!

Our creative director Cathy has been rewarded for all her hard work at 4D by winning a top business award!

The Enterprise Vision Awards have been created to recognise those ladies in the North West who are inspiring others by successfully running their own businesses or are at the forefront of their profession.

Cathy attended the awards on Friday night and we are delighted to say she won the Creative Industry Of The Year category for her vision and creativity in co-founding 4D.

In accepting the award, Cathy said:

“It’s really exciting to be recognised as a successful business woman in the Creative Industries, to have a business that has grown from a passion for doing things differently, changing the way we look at engaging young people and their learning.

Moving from artist/creative practitioner to running a successful business has meant that each day is a huge learning curve that continues to be exciting and terrifying in equal measure!

Winning this award has enabled me to have the confidence in my own abilities to keep moving forward and to believe in what we have achieved in such a short time”

Well done to all the other nominees and winners. We’ll find out if we can add another trophy to our office awards shelf when the Educator Investor awards are announced in November.

4D Team Away Day

Last week, we put down our keyboards, redirected the phone and headed out for a day of team building in Anglesey. The Conway Centre was our host and plays a key role in the history of 4D. It was here, as drama practitioners, that Ben and Cathy first met.

The day was firstly about planning and vision for the company, we spent some quality time mapping what we think is great about 4D and what could be improved. Secondly it was about creativity and team work including some fun times on the centre’s zip wire! Finally it was about BBQ-ing and board games.

It was great to get away and spend some quality time with each other and it’s also helped us hit the school summer holidays with a renewed focus. Here’s some pictures for your perusal. Big thanks to the Conway Centre Staff!
